Services

I work with individuals, couples, and families, ages 16 and up, with a broad range of struggles. Below I share more about the areas that I focus on in my work.

Anxiety and Stress

You've been finding yourself lying awake at night thinking. Thinking about what you have to do tomorrow. Thinking about whether you said the right thing. Maybe even thinking about what your co-workers, friends, and loved ones think about you. This happens more than you would like and you're exhausted. You find yourself feeling ready to go at the beginning of your day but as you go on you become overwhelmed with everything you have on your plate and you spend the rest of the day delaying the inevitable, playing on your phone or watching Netflix and barely getting done what you HAVE to do.

All you want is to be able to shut off your brain for a little bit and feel confident in yourself. Confident in your ability to get things done, confident in your interactions with others, and confident just in yourself. You want to get to the end of the day and be able to spend the time with yourself or those you care about without worries interrupting.

Anxiety sucks... but it doesn't have to rule your life. You can take control of it and use it to motivate you. I help clients to explore what are the causes of there stress and anxiety and then we explore ways to reduce it and make it work for you. We'll explore how to handle stress and anxiety when it pops up quickly along with how to reduce it over the long run so that you can relax and enjoy each day with the people you care about.

Relationship Stress

There is tension in the air. For weeks, months, or even years there has been distance put between you and your loved one. You miss how it was before when it was so easy to be together. You miss that person you felt you could always depend on. Maybe you're struggling most with a romantic partner. Or maybe you are experiencing struggles with a friend or family member.

No matter who it is, your relationship matters to you. You want to find ways to communicate better and to be able to give and receive love from those you care about.

I work with individuals, couples, and families to learn new skills to improve their relationships. I often work with clients on improving and making adjustments on the way they communicate with their loved ones so that they are able to express themselves and hear their partner in a more effective way. I also work with clients to address issues that keep getting in the way of their relationship and to explore solutions to help reduce conflict around these issues.

Individual clients are able to bring their partner in to some sessions to address concerns or I do offer couples therapy at my self pay rate.

EMDR

You can't seem to stop thinking about that awful thing that happened. At times you may be able to forget about it but later it will pop up again. You dream about it. You randomly find yourself reacting strongly to situations that typically would not bother you. You become easily upset and you're not even sure why. You just want those thoughts and feelings to go away. This could be happening because you have experienced some type of trauma in your life.

When you experience a trauma, whether it's a big trauma where you feel unsafe or a little trauma where an uncomfortable emotion greatly impacts you, your brain will sometimes store the memory of it in a way that is unhelpful for you in the long run. At the time it helps to protect you but later when you are safe you will still react as if you are in that situation again. EMDR or Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing therapy can help your brain to process past distressing memories in a more helpful way in order to reduce the emotional and physical reactions you are having.

I help clients process past difficult experiences utilizing EMDR techniques. It is important to me that we start with a base of safety by learning skills that can help you to calm you mind and body down when you start to have a reaction. These skills you will be able to take with you even after you are done with therapy to utilize in your everyday life. After we have developed a safe base we will start to process those difficult memories that you're struggling with. You will have control of what memories you process, how much you want to tell me, and if you want to stop. It is most important to me that you feel safe to process these difficult experiences. If you are interested in EMDR please contact me to discuss if you may benefit from EMDR therapy.
